FIRE crews attended a large blaze at a barn in Lawshall, near Long Melford.A crew from Long Melford and Bury St Edmunds were called to the barn, which was 20m by 50m, in Bury Road at 10 minutes past midnight today.

FIRE crews attended two large blazes at barns in Suffolk today.

A crew from Long Melford and Bury St Edmunds were called to a barn in Lawshall, near Long Melford, which was 20m by 50m, in Bury Road at 10 minutes past midnight today. The machinery in the barn was protected. Half the barn was well alight.

Relief crews from Clare and Hadleigh arrived at the scene at 4.30am.

Firefighters were still damping down this morning.

There was also a large fire in a vehicle workshop in Nowton, near Bury St Edmunds, which started around the same time. Crews from Wickhambrook and Ickworth attended the incident and found that flames had completely engulfed the workshop. Relief crews were also sent from Framlingham, Newmarket and Stowmarket to help.
