SUFFOLK singing sensation Laura Wright has joined the likes of opera stars Katherine Jenkins and Russell Watson in singing the national anthem at a premier sporting event.

The Framlingham College student, who is one quarter of Brit-nominated classical girl group All Angels, sang the national anthem before England's friendly football match against the USA at Wembley Stadium on Wednesday night.

The 17-year-old described the experience as an honour and said it was welcome relief from her revision for her forthcoming A-Level exams.

She said: “It was awesome. We got there mid-afternoon and had a sound check and there's something about that situation with the whole England team there where you feel proud to be singing and proud to a part of it.

“They're not there listening to your vocal harmony or if you're in tune it's more about the atmosphere and what it's all about which takes the pressure off us.

“All the crowd was singing along it was an amazing feeling. David Beckham was very close by so we were quite lucky.
