PARALYSIS has struck hard on a speed lover who used to live life – in his own words – at 100mph.

But speedway star Lol Hare still manages a smile for his hundreds of fans, as he lies in his hospital bed.

Today, in a moving and frank interview with the Evening Star, he voices his emotions with a down-to-earthedness which belies the intensity of his chosen words.

Despair and hope jockey for position in his mind, as the fighting spirit which once graced the track, takes over.

This is one contest that only he can win.
