Ipswich council officials are starting legal moves to force a group of travellers off the Bramford Lane Recreation Ground where the pitched an unlawful site last week.
The travellers, in about 15 vehicles, moved to Bramford Lane on Thursday night after moving from the West End Road car park where they had pitched unlawfully on Wednesday evening.
Borough officials started preparing for the possibility of legal action on Friday, but did not take formal steps because they hoped the travellers would leave over the weekend.
They were still there on Monday morning, prompting the council to formally begin legal moves to have them moved on.
A spokesman for the authority said: “Ipswich Borough Council is taking all necessary steps to secure possession of Bramford Lane recreation ground after a group of travellers arrived on the site. Council officials are working to resolve the situation as soon as possible.”
