HER Royal Highness the Princess Alexandra will meet Legion Standard Bearers on the conclusion of their parade around the avenues of the Suffolk Showground when she visits the Suffolk Show this year.

HER Royal Highness the Princess Alexandra will meet Legion Standard Bearers on the conclusion of their parade around the avenues of the Suffolk Showground when she visits the Suffolk Show this year.

Now an established and popular feature of the show, the parade by 80 standard bearers from branches throughout the county will take place on Thursday, June 6. Musical support will be provided by the Scots Guards Association Pipe Band.

Major Dixie Ingram, the president of the band, said: "I am always pleased to provide the music for the Royal British Legion. The Legion does extremely valuable work for ex-service people and their families and we are honoured to be involved."

As well as the parade around the avenues there will be a 30 minute display by the standard bearers in the President's ring at 3.15pm. Christopher Bushby, the executive director of the show said: "We are always pleased to see the RBL Standard Bearers from the Suffolk branches each year. This year we have also given the Legion the opportunity to give us a display. It was their 80th anniversary last year and with HM The Queen as the Legion's patron, it seems appropriate to do something special in this Jubilee year."

John Farmer, chairman of RBL Suffolk, said: "We are delighted to have been given the opportunity to display our standards. I'm also very grateful to Lord Belstead, the Lord Lieutenant, who will be taking the salute as they march out of the ring."

The standard bearers and the band will set off at 1.45pm from Gate D on Thursday, on a route around the showground, ending up at the fountain where Princess Alexandra will meet and talk to them at 2.15pm.

The display of standards will take place from 3.15-3.45pm on Thursday in the President's Ring.
