IPSWICH MP Jamie Cann today remained critically ill in Addenbrooke's Hospital, Cambridge.

The Evening Star's office has already heard from members of the public shocked at the news that he is fighting for his life in hospital.

Now we are inviting people to send us get well messages to the MP which we will pass on to his family.

Mr Cann's wife, Rosie, said today that she had already had several calls – but because only their closest friends and colleagues knew their phone number, most people were unable to get in contact.

She said the family would be happy to pass on messages to the MP in hospital.

Among the first people to contact the Star after the news emerged was Keith Rodwell, who was part of the fight to save Ipswich Witches speedway.

Mr Cann led the fight which saved the Witches in 1996.

"He played an absolutely crucial role in saving speedway at Foxhall," said Mr Rodwell. "Everyone connected with the Witches owes him a great debt of gratitude. We are all hoping and praying that he makes a full and speedy recovery."

There has been shock around the area ever since Mr Cann's family issued a statement yesterday confirming that he was in hospital with a life-threatening condition.

Norwich North Labour MP Dr Ian Gibson has spoken of his hope that Mr Cann will soon be better and back "making a nuisance of himself," on the Labour backbenches.

If you have a get well message for Mr Cann send them to: Evening Star Newsdesk, 30 Lower Brook Street, Ipswich, IP4 1AN or e-mail starnews@ecng.co.uk.

We will pass them on to Mr Cann's family.
