TWO yachts ran aground at the entrance to the River Orwell and required help from the Harwich inshore lifeboat.

At 17.10 on Saturday it was called to assist the yacht “Blue Sprit “ with people onboard.

On arrival the lifeboat towed the yacht, which had sustained damage to her keel and now taking on water clear of the bank. She was taken in tow to Shotley marina and lifted out of the water.

On leaving the yacht Blue Sprit the Lifeboat was called to a second yacht, “Andrea,” which had also run aground on the guard bank.

The 35ft vessel with three people on board was stuck solid and listing heavily on her port side. The crew requested the lifeboat set a sea anchor for her whilst she awaited the next flood tide.

There were no injuries in either incident.
