KIND-hearted lions in Stowmarket are today offering to put someone on the stairway to heaven, with a gift worth thousands of pounds.

The district's lions club has a stairlift to give away to a good home - and to get all you have to do to get your hands on it is complete one simple step.

Kit Carson, of the group, said: "We just want to give it to someone who could make good use of it.

"We're really reluctant to throw it away but we've shown it to different people and nobody wants it. If people are interested, all they have to do is get in touch with us."

Mr Carson stressed no one is being taken for a ride by the give-away, as the mechanism is in good working order.

The unusual gift was given to the group around a two years ago following a house clearance.

He said: "We've had it for a long time now but it's in really good condition.

"It's been stored in the dry and I know it would clean up really nicely.

"We really want to give it to a good home. It's what we do. We're wonderfully helpful."

And to top off the kind offer, Mr Carson said the lions would even consider helping towards the cost of installing it.

"It has got all the bits with it," he said. "It would just be a case of having it put together and fitted. But if someone needed financial assistance putting it in, we'd consider helping them with that."

Anyone who is interested in the chairlift, which would cost about £2,000 new, can contact the lions on 07789 600170.
