Bomb disposal experts have carried out a controlled explosion on a corroded hand grenade dredged up at the West Bank Terminal of Ipswich Port today.
In light of the terrorism incident on the London Underground this morning, police in Suffolk want to allay fears and make reassurances that the incident is under control.
Suffolk Constabulary was called to the location off Wherstead Road at 9am.
A police spokesman said: βItβs definitely a hand grenade and it is very corroded.β
The team from Colchester Garrison carried out a controlled explosion on the device at 11.10am.
A 20 metre cordon was put in place.
