AN Ipswich locksmith who was found in possession of ecstasy tablets at one of the town's night-clubs, has been jailed for three and a half years today.

AN Ipswich locksmith who was found in possession of ecstasy tablets at one of the town's night-clubs, has been jailed for three and a half years today.

Colin Easton, 34, of Cemetery Road, Ipswich, had thrown a bag containing 34 tablets away when he was approached by door staff at Kartouche, Ipswich Crown Court heard.

Police officers who searched Easton's home later found a further 30 ecstasy tablets from the same batch, said Duncan O'Donnell, prosecuting.

In May last year while Easton was on bail police officers returned to his home and heard the sound of the toilet flushing.

Easton was found holding an empty bag and one ecstasy tablet was found on the toilet floor.

A metal cash tin containing 293 ecstasy tablets was found in a car parked near Easton's house. Easton claimed he was looking after the tablets for someone else in return for five ecstasy tablets.

Mr O'Donnell said that at a special hearing, a Judge had ruled that Easton's account of how he came to be in possession of the 293 tablets could not be believed and that he should be sentenced for that offence as a commercial dealer.

Easton admitted two offences of possessing ecstasy tablets with intent to supply.

Trevor Berriman, for Easton, told the court that Easton had been a regular heavy user of ecstasy for three to four years and had told the police that he used up to 70 tablets a week.

He said that after Easton was remanded in custody in May last year, he lost one and a half stone in one week due to drug withdrawal.

Mr Berriman said his client had allowed himself to be tested for drug use regularly during his time in prison and had been drug free throughout.

He had also made good use of his time on remand and had taken exams and had also helped other inmates who had drugs problems.
