LAWRENCE Hare's father John knew what to expect when he answered the phone in his Ipswich house on Sunday April 14.

Talking exclusively to the Evening Star today John said that he had a premonition that his son would suffer a bad injury riding for Exeter at Newport on that fateful day.

Talking exclusively to the Evening Star today John said that he had a premonition that his son would suffer a bad injury riding for Exeter at Newport on that fateful day.

"As soon as the telephone rang I knew what it was," said John, who immediately dashed to the Royal Gwent Hospital with wife Dawn, daughter-in-law Stacey and his other son Stewart.

Taking a break in Ipswich for a few days after their bedside vigil, the stricken speedway rider's parents talk for the first time about their recent nightmare – and their hope for the future.
