A London drug dealer has admitted possessing cocaine with intent to supply following his arrest on an Ipswich street.

Samil Abubaker, of Mary Datchelor Close, Camberwell, was arrested in Commercial Street at about 8.15pm on Tuesday after police saw the 24-year-old exchanging items for cash with local known drug users.

Abubaker was detained and searched by officers, who discovered two mobile phones, 10 wraps of cocaine and £500 in cash inside a bag he was carrying.

Abubaker admitted possession with intent to supply class A drugs, possession of cannabis and possession of criminal property at Suffolk Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.

Appearing in custody via video link from Martlesham Heath police investigation centre, Abubaker spoke to confirm his name, address, date of birth, and to plead guilty to the three charges.

Prosecutor Colette Harper said Abubaker was also in breach of a community order imposed for battery on June 8.

“The defendant was seen street dealing by police officers on four occasions,” she added.

“He initially refused to give his details when arrested, but then told them ‘It’s in the bag’.”

Solicitor Larissa Hutson made no application for bail on behalf of her client, Abubaker, who was remanded in custody until a later date, when he will be sentenced by a judge at Ipswich Crown Court.

Magistrates declined jurisdiction for sentencing and requested a full pre-sentence report to be prepared by the probation service.

Possession of a controlled class A drug with intent to supply carries a sentence of between a high level community order and 16 years in prison.

In June, police arrested seven people suspected of involvement in a London gang running a drug dealing network to Suffolk.

Raids were carried out at six addresses, including Bond Street, Ipswich, and Main Road, Henley, as well as five in the Newham area of London.

Warrants were executed by Metropolitan Police officers in a series of Trident raids in the early hours of Tuesday, June 12.

As part of the operation, one man and two women were arrested by Suffolk Constabulary, while Essex Police arrested one man. All were aged 19-39 and arrested for conspiracy to supply class A drugs.
