A saddled riderless pony was spotted on a bridge over the A12 near Ipswich earlier this afternoon.

Several police units were deployed to search for the rider and the pony after receiving two reports of sightings from members of the public.

The pony was seen walking across the Church Lane bridge, which runs over the A12 in Copdock.

A police spokeswoman later confirmed that the horse had eventually been found by the owner after it made its own way home.

“Everyone is now safe and accounted for,” she added.
