TWO old school chums have been reunited after losing touch for 16 years, thanks to The Evening Star's Finding Friends service.

Ann White and Sue Martin (nee Chapman) last saw each other in 1986 when Sue came back to England for her mother's funeral.

Now though they have been swapping news by e-mail, met up again – and are pledging not to lose touch again.

"I was a bit apprehensive that we might not have enough to talk about, or we might seem like strangers as people change over time – but that hasn't proved the case at all," said Ann.

"It's been great. We have just carried on from where we left off and we have so much to catch up on."

Ann and Sue went to Felixstowe Grammar School (now Deben High) together in the early 1960s.

After they left, Sue, who now lives in Canada, went to work in London and later – in 1965 – moved and settled in Vancouver.

"That was when we lost touch the first time. I did briefly see her again when she came back in 1986 when her mother died, but I had not seen her since then," said Ann, 59, of Felixstowe Ferry.

Then Ann's details were put on the Finding Friends database, using the Star and its web site, and her cousin spotted a return message on the web page. The couple swapped e-mails and their friendship blossomed again.

This month Sue, 60, has been over from Canada to visit Ann – and has also met up with some other old school friends, too.

"I have taken her down the Ferry, to the sailing club and she has met some other people she knew, too, and it's been a great time," said Ann, whose husband John runs the foot ferry across the River Deben.

"We have seen each other several times while she has been here – and now it would be really nice to go to Canada and see where she lives!"
