This one is very much for the aircraft and car enthusiasts as we take a look back at the Ipswich airfield held their annual Land Air Rally at the airstrip.

An airfield which was soaked in history dating back to 1928, it played a part in World War 2, being a base for several squadrons of Spitfires among others, and towards the end of it’s operation, would begin hosting many public events for the residents of Ipswich.

Holding many air shows throughout the years the airfield would also host it’s annual Land Air Rally, inviting the gathering of vintage vehicles and aircraft to be displayed and flown from the airfield.

Military vehicles, American classics and World War 2 aircraft were all featured at the 1989 rally, with aircraft putting on displays throughout the day, giving those a rare sight of seeing classic aircraft in flight.

There was only to be a few more of these rallies though as the Council took over operation of the airport and announced it’s closure in 1993.
