A SUNNY end to the half term holiday will start today with the warmest weather so far this year.

The mercury peaked at 22C yesterday with more high temperatures expected over the weekend and into the start of next week.

For youngsters enjoying the last weekend of the half term break, the weather will be spot on for a trip to the beach or park.

Evening Star weatherman Ken Blowers said: “The fine spell will continue for some days yet.

“You can expect great weather over the weekend and during next week.

“Thursday was the warmest day of the year, the highest recorded temperature since September 11 last year.”

The sunny dry period is the result of an anti-cyclone over the North Sea which will move across towards Sweden and Denmark bringing easterly winds.

Mr Blowers added: “Because of the easterly wind it will mean coastal areas feel a little cooler but it will be bright sunny and very warm.

“As we move into the start of June the sun will feel very strong, so temperatures will remain high.”

Over the weekend and into next week temperatures are expected to reach about 20C.

But the warm spell could be bad news for gardeners with no rain forecast.
