WITH the eagerly awaited release of the new Lord of the Rings film less than two weeks away Felixstowe Spa Pavilion is celebrating with a charity screening of the first film in the series.

Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring will be screened at the theatre on Monday at 7.30pm.

Tickets for the specially arranged showing are £2 with all proceeds being donated to the NSPCC.

Spa manager Paul Ryan said: "It's the time of year when we have to give something to those less fortunate than ourselves. What better way to support worthwhile charities than to attend this blockbuster just before its sequel hits screens across the country."

The charity screening is being held the week before Lord of the Rings: Two Towers opens at cinemas across the country.

This second film of three picks up the story as Frodo continues his journey to destroy the all-powerful ring while his friends continue to battle against the dark forces of Middle Earth. Many characters from the first Peter Jackson-directed film are back along with a host of new names and faces.

The third film, Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, has already been made and is due to be released at the end of next year.

n The NSPCC Charity Film Screening of Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (PG) is being held at 7.30pm on Monday. Tickets cost £2 and are available in advance by calling 01394 282126 or on the door on the night.
