EMERGENCY services have been called to a crash on the A14 today.

A MOTORIST has been taken to hospital with head injuries after her car collided with an articulated tanker lorry.

The extent of the female driver's injuries remain unclear but the accident at 9.10am this morning has blocked the A14 Ipswich-bound between the Woolpit and Beyton slip roads near Bury St Edmunds, causing tailbacks.

It is thought the woman, who was driving a grey VW polo, had broken down at the time of the incident.

No other cars are to be involved and the lorry driver is shaken but unhurt.

Three fire crews have been sent to the scene from Bury and Elmswell, including the pump rescue tender, as well as the ambulance service and police who are setting up diversions.

A police spokeswoman appealed for drivers to avoid the area.
