Lorry sheds its load on A12

POLICE are appealing for the driver of a sugar beet lorry to come forward after it shed part of its load on the A12 near Stratford St Mary.

The lorry was travelling on the Ipswich bound carriageway when the beet fell from the lorry.

The lorry was travelling on the Ipswich bound carriageway when the beet fell from the lorry. It was was spread over more than 200 yards of the A12 shortly after 9am today.

Part of the carriageway was closed for more than an hour and caused tailbacks of a mile while workmen cleared the scene.

Police are appealing for any witnesses to come forward and to contact Essex Police on 01245 491491.

A police spokesman said that it is not unusual for lorries to lose part of their load without realising, but they will be investigating the incident to establish whether the lorry was travelling with an insecure load.
