Charlie and Rachel Baird, of Kesgrave, celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary on September 17

They’ve been married for 60 years and are still going strong.

But according to Rachel Baird, celebrating her diamond wedding anniversary with husband Charlie, there is no secret formula to building a successful marriage.

The couple, both 84 from Kesgrave, married on September 17, 1955, four years after meeting.

Mrs Baird said: “We met when he was in the army.

“I lived in Melton and my brother was also in the army.

“They were friends and eventually we went out.”

Mrs Baird said the union had been a happy success because being a couple “just comes naturally” to them.

To celebrate the anniversary, Mrs Baird said they had a big family meal, whilst waiting for the imminent birth of their first great-grandchild.
