A man who lost his temper during a row with his girlfriend and shoved her head through a car window has been jailed for 18 months.

Aaron Parker had been using drugs and drinking when he pushed 23-year-old Charlotte Houghton’s head through the side window of his mother’s Land Rover, Ipswich Crown Court heard.

The window smashed and Miss Houghton was taken to hospital where she had glass fragments removed from a deep one inch gash on her cheek and stitches under a general anaesthetic, said Michael Crimp, prosecuting.

Parker, 24, of Edgerton Road, Lowestoft, admitted unlawful wounding and criminal damage in October last year.

Jailing him for 18 months, Judge John Holt said Parker was drunk and had taken two lines of cocaine when he got into a row with his girlfriend.

“You shoved her head so hard against a Land Rover window that the window smashed and her head went through it and cut the right side of her cheek. It was a deep cut but fortunately it has healed well and there is limited scarring,” he said.

Mr Crimp told the court that Parker and his girlfriend had a “volatile” relationship and on the day of the assault they had been out celebrating Parker’s birthday and had returned home in a “foul” mood.

The couple were both drinking and started arguing, shouting and swearing at each other, Mr Crimp said.

They left the house but shortly afterwards Miss Houghton returned with an open cut on her cheek which was bleeding.

Mr Crimp said since the incident Miss Houghton said she was not scared of Parker and was hoping to resume her relationship with him on his release from prison.

Andrew Thompson, for Parker, said he deeply regretted what he had done and was adamant he would never behave the same way again.
