An advice and drop-in event is being held at Suffolk County Council’s headquarters at Endeavour House in Ipswich today as part of Carers Rights Day.

It is being held by the Suffolk, Norfolk & Cambridgeshire Macmillan Benefits Advice team, who will be working with Suffolk Family Carers to provide information, advice, guidance and advocacy to carers of all ages across the county.

Wendy Bailey, services project manager for the East of England, said: “If you are looking after a loved one with cancer, you may have extra costs such as transport, heating or a special diet for them.

“You may have given up work or reduced your hours to care.

“Our event will provide vital advice and information to anyone looking after a family member or friend with cancer to make sure they know their rights to financial and practical support.”

The event will run from 10am-3pm at the Suffolk County Council headquarters.

Cathy Cunningham-Elliott, Macmillan benefits advice service manager at Suffolk County Council, said: “It’s incredibly important that people with cancer and their carers are aware of the financial support available to them, during what is a very difficult time.
