A lively, fun filled show from the creators of Shrek the Musical and based on a movie of the same name comes Madagascar The Musical.

With Alex the Lion played brilliantly by Matt Terry, winner of the X Factor 2016 and a great supporting cast, all with superb voices, this was a fun, colourful and entertaining watch.

The story follows zoo buddies Alex, Marty, Gloria and Melman from their New York City Zoo home to the Wilds of Madagascar via storage crates aboard a ship.

Marty has longed to leave the Zoo and his birthday wish comes true much to the annoyance of his best friend Alex.

All along this journey the penguins appear at regular intervals acting slightly sneaky and in the end they take charge of the ship.

All of this and more unfolded with a combination of wonderful choreography and perfectly sung numbers including the ever popular ‘I like to Move it’ which had us dancing and clapping away along with the cast.

It was a mix of puppetry and great wardrobe. No half measures here! All cleverly executed.

There was even a drop of adult humour in there to keep us feeling involved which is always appreciated.

All in all we had a good time (the six year old enjoyed it the most I think!) and so did the rest of the audience who were up dancing at the end and a healthy round of applause was given to end the show.

I fully recommend a visit to see this and maybe take your little ones too!

Madgascar the Musical is at the Ipswich Regent until Saturday, October 20 and you can purchase tickets here.
