A TRADITION is developing of young editors running a parish magazine for four south Suffolk villages.

The Quartet which covers the villages of Raydon, Holton St Mary, Stratford St Mary and Higham, has just appointed its second 16 year-old editor.

Sophie Thomas, 16, of The Street, Stratford St Mary, will spend a month working with outgoing editor Verity Ranson, 17, before taking over sole charge of the monthly magazine.

Sophie has just started A levels at Ipswich School, Henley Road, where she is studying Maths, Chemistry, Biology and French, after gaining 10 GCSEs this summer at Amberfield School.

She said: "I was looking for something to do for my Duke of Edinburgh gold award and my mum saw Verity was looking for someone else to take over the magazine, so I asked if it would be possible for me to do it."

Verity, too, had used her editorship towards the 30 hours of community service which makes up a component of the Duke of Edinburgh bronze and silver awards.

Now in her A level exam year at Colchester Sixth Form College, she is handing over the editorship to concentrate on her studies.
