A MAN has appeared in court to face allegations that he murdered his wife.

Anthony Morley appeared before magistrates in Bury St Edmunds charged with the murder of Joanne Morley, a mother-of-five from Eagle Walk in the town.

Mrs Morley, 42 died as a result of a blow to the head on Saturday.

Mr Morley, 42, also of Eagle Walk, spoke only to confirm his name, age and address when he appeared in Bury yesterday.

Ian Devine, prosecuting, said Morley was accused of murdering Mrs Morley on Saturday - the day before her body was found by police. He was remanded in custody until his next appearance at Ipswich Crown Court on July 5.

A 23-year-old man, also arrested on suspicion of Mrs Morley's murder, has been released on police bail and ordered to return to Bury Police Station on August 14.

Karen Stapleton, barmaid at the Spread Eagle pub in Bury, where Mrs Morley used to work said: “Jo was lovely, and I just can't believe this has happened.

“She was really funny and used to make everyone laugh. She got on with everyone, and was great with the customers.”

Mrs Morley - originally from Scotland - had two grown-up sons, two teenage daughters, and a baby son.
