A FELIXSTOWE man who shouted abuse down the phone at his 79-year-old adoptive aunt has appeared at court.

Brian Borrett, 46, admitted making persistent calls to Vera Field from a telephone box in Halesworth on October 2.

Magistrates heard that Borrett, of Montague Road, Felixstowe, managed to speak to Ms Field on six occasions. He called three more times but she did not answer the phone.

Andrea Reynolds, prosecuting, said: "He admitted in interview (with the police) that he called her a murderous old cow and told her that she brought the family name into disrepute."

She said Ms Fields had been "extremely shocked and frightened" by Borrett's outburst.

Roger Stewart, representing Borrett, said relations between the pair had been strained for a number of years.

He said: "There's only been sporadic contact between the parties over the last 20 years and that has been resentful and angry."

Mr Stewart said that Ms Field who was described as a "retired nurse" was in fact struck off the nursing register."

She was struck off for misconduct at the Lakeside Lodge Nursing and Residential Home in Middleton near Saxmundham.

Field was found guilty of five misconduct charges in October last year at a hearing in London of the UK Central Council for Midwifery and Health Visiting professional committee (UKCC). The offences were committed between 1995 and 1997.

The court heard that Borrett, who has no previous convictions, has a history of anxiety and was on medication.

After ordering a specific sentence report magistrates gave the defendant to a 12-month conditional discharge. He was also ordered to pay £55 costs.
