FIREARMS officers and a police negotiator were called to a Stowmarket street after a man barricaded himself inside a garage containing “explosive” substances last night.
The siege began at about 7pm when police surrounded the garage in Spencer Way, on the Chilton Hall estate, and evacuated several homes.
A police negotiator managed to talk the man into giving himself up by around 10pm and nobody was hurt in the incident.
A 24-year-old man has been arrested and taken to Bury St Edmunds police station on suspicion of damage, harassment and affray.
