ARMED officers swooped following reports a man had been seen with a rifle.
The drama unfolded at around 6.45pm yesterday when police were called to Cranworth Gardens in Norwich, after members of the public claimed they had seen the man with the weapon.
A short time later, a red Ford Escort van was seen leaving the area. The vehicle was stopped on the A11 in Norwich by armed officers and a 40-year-old man was detained.
An air rifle was recovered soon after.
Police are appealing for witnesses to contact them by calling 0845 4564567.
