A 21-year-old man was hit by a Ford Ka car at the junction of Poplar Hill and Webb's Close in Stowmarket at around 6pm on Saturday night.
A police spokesman said the driver failed to stop at the scene.
Emergency services were alerted after the injured man managed to walk to a house in Hill Rise to raise the alarm.
When police arrived he was already being treated by paramedics before being taken to West Suffolk Hospital in Bury St Edmunds where his injuries were described as minor.
Poplar Hill was closed to allow a collision investigation team to examine the area.
A 48-year-old man was arrested and taken into custody on Saturday night for further questioning at Bury Police Station.
