Man banned from pub for year

South East Suffolk Magistrates Court heard that Stephen Adams, of Bader Close, had gone to the Golden Hind, in Nacton Road, Ipswich, at about 8pm on March 26.

Landlady Julie Wardley was familiar with the 34-year-old who occasionally drank in the pub and had been banned on one previous occasion.

On the day in question he had been drinking before going to the pub and was being very noisy.

Gareth Davies, prosecuting, told the court that Adams had become aggressive toward one of the barmen and gave the impression of trying to provoke a fight.

He was asked to leave and told he wouldn't be served any more. He showed no sign of moving, however, so Ms Wardley called the police.

Adams became more aggressive, saying if he was going to be banned he would do something to justify a ban. He picked up a barstool and started brandishing it.

At his appearance before magistrates Adams pleaded guilty to a public order offence in which he caused harassment, alarm or distress and a charge of refusing to leave licensed premises.

Mark Holt mitigating said: "By his own admission he (Adams) was completely intoxicated and he accepts his behaviour was unruly.

"However, despite his foul language and threats it appears there was no actual use of violence."

Magistrates gave Adams 12-month conditional discharges for each of the offences and a 12-month exclusion order from the Golden Hind. He was also ordered to pay £55 costs.
