A MAN has been charged with drink driving after a car was driven the wrong way down the A14 in Suffolk.

As revealed in Saturday's Evening Star, terrified members of the public flooded police with calls shortly after 4am that morning after spotting the car heading the wrong way down the dual carriageway between Trimley and Ipswich.

Police were quickly despatched to the scene and a road block was put in place at Copdock.

The car was brought to a stop and a 32-year-old man from Felixstowe was later charged with drink-driving.

Inspector Bruce Gent, of Suffolk police, said it was a “miracle” nobody was injured during the incident.

He said despite the drama unfolding in the early hours, there were still numerous vehicles on the road.

Insp Gent said: “It caused chaos but thankfully there was no accident.

“There were a lot of heavy goods lorries driving along there and it is a miracle something wasn't destroyed.”
