Police were led on a high speed pursuit along the A14 in the early hours of this morning.

Officers were on a routine patrol at around 1am this morning, Thursday November 3, on the A12 at Copdock when they requested a Ford Focus to pull over.

When it failed to stop a pursuit ensued and officers spotted items being thrown from the vehicle.

The chase, involving five police cars at speeds in excess of 90 mph, came to an end on the A14 at the junction with the A1120 near Stowmarket at around 1.10am.

39-year-old Leon Roberts, of Lordship Terrance, Hackney, London, was detained and taken to Martlesham Police Investigation Centre for questioning.

Police closed both the westbound and eastbound carriageways of the A14 between junction 51 at Coddenham and junction 52 at Claydon to undertake a search, assisted by a dog unit.

A number of packages believed to contain controlled drugs were recovered.

Roberts was later charged with possession of a class B drug, failing to provide a specimen of blood, failing to stop for police, driving without due care and attention, driving without insurance and driving otherwise than in accordance to a licence.

Roberts has been released on bail and is due to appear before Ipswich Magistrates’ Court on Monday November 21.
