A 23-YEAR-OLD man has been charged tonight following a late night stand-off with police.

Homeowners looked on as a man skipped from roof to roof along Primrose Hill, Haverhill, at 11pm on Tuesday.

Trained negotiators were called in and the Essex Police helicopter was mobilised as the man climbed on top of a roof.

He was eventually talked down and was arrested at 12.13am today and taken to Bury St Edmunds Police Station.

Paramedics, who were waiting on standby in an adjoining street, found that the man was uninjured despite concerns he may have been suffering from hypothermia.

Last night a spokesman for Suffolk police confirmed a man from the Haverhill area had been charged with aggravated burglary and criminal damage to a dwelling.

He remains in police custody.
