Man charged with beach huts arson

POLICE have charged a 23-year-old man with setting fire to beach huts at Old Felixstowe.

David Paul Keen has been accused of arson at The Dip, Cliff Road, when two wooden chalets were destroyed and two damaged in a blaze.

He is due to appear before South East Suffolk Magistrates, sitting at Ipswich, on Tuesday, March 19.

The incident happened at just after 11pm on Monday, February 4.

Firefighters managed to stop the flames spreading to other huts nearby.

Crews discovered a gas cylinder inside one of the huts but they dealt with it safely and it didn't explode.

Fishing rods, raincoats and kitchen equipment worth £750, which had been stored inside the huts, were destroyed.

The following Monday, police arrested three people on the seafront in Undercliff Road East in the early hours after an operation involving uniformed police, undercover officers and the police helicopter.

No charges have been brought against a man aged 20 and a woman aged 19 who were arrested and questioned.
