An Ipswich man was hit in the face with a spanner during a late night violent confrontation in the street outside his home, it has been alleged.

Shane Boyes was allegedly knocked to the ground from behind and then hit in the face by Calvin Watchman who was holding a spanner, Ipswich Crown Court was told.

During the alleged incident Mr Boyes was punched in the face by his former partner, Iyesha Spencer, who had come to his house in Hossack Road with Watchman and was shouting at him, said Charles Kellett, prosecuting.

He said that as a result of the alleged incident Mr Boyes suffered several injuries to his face including bruising and swelling.

The court heard there had been ill feeling between Mr Boyes and Spencer since the breakdown of their relationship.

Watchman, 43, of no fixed address, has denied assaulting Mr Boyes causing him actual bodily harm and having an offensive weapon.

Mr Kellett told the court that Iyesha Spencer had admitted assaulting Mr Boyes.

Giving evidence Mr Boyes denied hitting Watchman on the head with a bottle.

The trial continues.
