A RESCUE operation to convey an ill man to an ambulance was aborted after he died.
Firefighters were called by the East of England Ambulance Trust at around 6.50pm yesterday to the Golden Key pub in Woodbridge Road for their assistance.
The crews from Colchester Road and Princes Street were required to make the access bigger to allow the 58-year-old man to be taken down in a stretcher through the first floor window.
However while the rescue operation was in progress, it is believed the man suffered a cardiac arrest and died. He was taken in the ambulance to the mortuary at Ipswich Hospital.
