A SUFFOLK father who threatened to kill a man with a metal bar is to be jailed.

Michael Vincent, of Main Road, Kesgrave told Peter Rose "nobody calls my wife a whore, I'm going to kill you". He was armed with a socket set extension bar at the time.

An Ipswich Crown Court jury took just over three hours to convict 33-year-old Vincent of making threats to kill and to possessing an offensive weapon.

During the trial the court heard that on September 28 last year Mr Rose had been waiting outside Heath Primary School in Bell Lane, Kesgrave, when he saw Vincent's ex-wife shout at an elderly man for being slow.

Mr Rose told the woman, who was picking up her children from school, she should learn some patience. He admitted calling her a whore.

Vincent retaliated by pulling up in front of Mr Rose's car as he drove home with his family and threatened to kill him. Mr Rose thought Vincent was carrying a machete.

Judge John Holt said Vincent had a criminal record of 74 offences dating back to 1988 for assault, theft, burglary and driving matters.

He said: "These latest offences are so serious that a term of imprisonment will be imposed. I will adjourn this case for a report to determine the length of sentence."

Vincent's bail application was refused and he was remanded in custody until July 15 when he is to be sentenced at Bury St Edmund's Crown Court.
