Firefighters from Ipswich had to use the service’s turntable ladder to rescue a man who was discovered in a life-threatening condition by paramedics on Sunday night
The man was found by paramedics who were called to a house in Burrell Road near Ipswich railway station at about 8.30pm on Sunday.
He was unresponsive and the fire service was called in to remove the first floor window and use the turntable ladder to bring him to the ground.
He was then transferred to an ambulance that took him to Ipswich hospital.
Burrell Road was closed to traffic for about 45 minutes while the operation took place with vehicles being diverted along Willoughby Road and Belstead Road.
The fire appliances were able to return to their stations at Princes Street and at Ipswich East on the Ransome’s Industrial estate within an hour of receiving the first call.
The operation did not cause major traffic problems because there was only light traffic on the streets of Ipswich at that time on the Sunday night of a bank holiday weekend.
