A MAN who kicked a cab in anger after the driver refused to give him and his friends a lift has ended up in court.

Justin Taplin, of Foxhall Road, Ipswich, pleaded guilty to a charge of criminal damage at a hearing at South East Suffolk Magistrates Court.

Kate Stephenson, prosecuting, told the court that Taplin had been celebrating his birthday with friends on November 25.

At the end of the evening he booked a taxi from Hawk Express. At about 2am a taxi arrived from the company and Taplin and three friends entered the vehicle.

However the driver explained that the taxi had been pre-booked by somebody else. A disagreement ensued culminating in 31-year-old Taplin kicking the rear wheel arch of the car, causing minor damage.

Richard O'Sullivan, defending, said the matter arose following a "misunderstanding" between Taplin and the driver.

The defendant had been due to face trial at the same court for further charges in relation to the incident.

However the prosecution withdrew charges of harassment and racially aggravated behaviour after a witness failed to appear at court.

For the criminal damage unemployed Taplin was fined £50 and ordered to pay £30 towards prosecution costs.
