A MAN is in hospital with serious injuries today after the car he was travelling in ploughed into a ditch.

The smash, which Suffolk Police believe involved just one vehicle, occurred just before 10pm last night on Waldingfield Road, Sudbury.

It was so severe that rescuers were forced to seal off the road, diverting traffic back through Waldingfield into Sudbury.

The injured man was taken to West Suffolk Hospital, along with another victim who was not so seriously injured.

Two fire crews from Sudbury and the rescue ladder from Bury St Edmunds attended the scene, using cutting equipment to free one man from the stricken Ford Escort car.

Suffolk Police today said they were unable to confirm the identity of the two victims until their next of kin had been informed.
