POLICE were today questioning a woman after a man was taken to hospital following a suspected knife attack.

The incident happened shortly before 6am in the Parkington Walk area of Bury St Edmunds.

The 21-year-old woman was arrested in connection with the incident and was being held at a police station in Suffolk.

A spokesman for the ambulance service said two crews were called to the scene after reports of a man being “stabbed”.

The teams spent less than five minutes with the 23-year-old man before taking him by ambulance to West Suffolk Hospital in Bury St Edmunds.

A spokesman for Suffolk police said officers called to the scene reported the man as having sustained injuries.

The spokesman said: “The male has injuries to his lower back.”

The extent of the man's injuries was initially unclear.

The woman arrested in connection with the incident was found a short time later in St Olaves in Bury St Edmunds.

She is understood to have suffered facial injuries and was treated by ambulance staff.
