Man in court on shooting charge

A 21-year-old man appeared before Ipswich magistrates today following an alleged shotgun incident in which a Grundisburgh woman suffered serious injuries, including a severed spinal cord.

A 21-year-old man appeared before Ipswich magistrates today following an alleged shotgun incident in which a Grundisburgh woman suffered serious injuries, including a severed spinal cord.

Alexander Powell denied unlawfully and maliciously wounding girlfriend Michelle Coulson, 19, on September 12 this year.

Powell, of Stoney Road, Grundisburgh, spoke only to confirm his name and address during a 10-minute hearing at South East Suffolk Magistrates Court.

Prosecutor John Hardwick told magistrates Coulson is seriously injured in hospital with a severed spinal cord after an alleged incident involving a shot gun at a house in Grundisburgh.

Magistrates granted Powell bail with a number of conditions including not to enter Suffolk except to attend court appearances.

The case was adjourned until November 18 when he will return before Ipswich magistrates for the case to be committed for trial.
