A MAN convicted of attempting to run over a policeman was arrested for drink driving on the day he was due to appear in court for sentencing.
Jeremy King, 44, was convicted of dangerous driving at South East Suffolk Magistrates Court on July 30 and was due to appear at Bury St Edmunds Crown Court on August 29 for sentencing.
He failed to appear and Bury St Edmunds Crown Court heard today that this was because he had been arrested on that day for drink driving.
King was given a four-month sentence for that offence and today was sentenced for six months to run consecutively for the original offence.
Judge John Devaux sentencing said: "You attacked a police office who was only doing his duty, you had been drinking with friends and were on your way home and I have no doubt that this affected your actions.
"Not only that, but on the day you should have appeared in court for this you were arrested for another driving offence. I have no option but to impose a custodial sentence."
