A SUFFOLK man has been sentenced to three months in prison for causing an accident which nearly claimed the life of a 16-year-old girl.

Lincoln Simpson, 37, of Pentlow on the Essex/Suffolk border was banned from driving for 12 months and fined £500 for failing to report an accident and careless driving.

Simpson collided with Jennifer Verhaest's moped in Foxearth on July 16 last year while riding on the wrong side of the road.

He failed to stop at the scene and left the teenager with serious injuries - according to surgeons she only had a 30 per cent chance of survival. She is now recovering.
