AN IPSWICH man has been jailed after breaking a condition of his bail and going into a Chantry pub.

Nigel Leathers, 35, of Swallows Road, was sentenced to a total of 42 days in prison for breaching bail on Saturday night, assaulting three men at the Belstead Arms pub on August 11, two thefts of food from Alldays at Pinewood and another theft on October 21.

The court heard Leathers went into Kings Pub in Hawthorne Drive after he was invited for a drink by the new landlord, but he later admitted breached a bail condition not to go within 100metres of the pub.

In mitigation, Naomi Turner said Leathers had suffered several bereavements and his girlfriend was awaiting a bone marrow transplant for cancer.

Remaining matters against Leathers were adjourned to December 6.
