A MAN charged with killing his friend in a frenzied knife attack has today been sentenced to 13 years in prison.

Kwabena Asumadu stabbed 22 year old Prince Kofi Koomson 13 times in a bedroom of the house they shared in Bury St Edmunds in the early hours of Christmas Eve after Mr Koomson asked Asumadu to turn down his music.

Asumadu, 28, was found guilty by a jury at Ipswich Crown Court today and sentenced to 13 years in prison minus 257 days already spent in custody on remand.

The two men, who are both Ghanaian nationals, worked together in a car cleaning and valeting business.

Earlier in the trial the court heard how there had been a growing resentment on the part of Asumadu towards Mr Koomson in the weeks before the murder because he was earning less.

Judge John Devaux told Asumadu: “There was some low degree of provocation but this arose from a quarrel during the course of which you lost your temper.”

Asumadu was told he would remain on licence for the rest of his life.
