Howard, 52, of Churnwood Road, Colchester, was jailed for six months after admitting 15 charges of failing to care for his flock and three more of failing to dispose of animal carcasses.
But he walked free from South East Suffolk Magistrates Court today pending an appeal.
Trading standards officers described the case as one of the worst they had ever seen after finding rotting carcasses strewn across the former Bentwaters Airbase.
