A teenage boy was rushed to hospital with a pellet “lost in his forehead” after he was shot in Ipswich.

The victim told police a man had jumped out of the bushes in a park off Norwich Road around 4.30pm on Friday and fired an air weapon at him.

A man in his 20s was arrested on suspicion of assault in connection with this incident and questioned at Martlesham Police Investigation Centre.

The boy was taken to Ipswich Hospital with injuries which were not life-threatening of life-changing, a spokesman for Suffolk Constabulary said.

On Friday a police spokeswoman said: “We were called by ambulance about 4.30pm to reports that someone may have been shot at Swinburne Road in Ipswich.

“A teenage boy reported he had been in a nearby park off Norwich Road when someone jumped from the bushes and fired what was believed to be a BB gun or an air weapon at him.

“We located the boy, who was in his mid-teens, and he was taken to hospital for treatment. The treatment was for a pellet which appeared to be lost in his forehead.

“We have arrested a male in his 20s on suspicion of assault.”

The East of England Ambulance Service sent a rapid response vehicle and an ambulance crew to the scene.

A spokesman for the trust said paramedics treated a teenager who had suffered a “minor head injury”.
