A MAN was killed today in a horrific road crash in Suffolk.

The accident occurred at 6.40am on the A134 road outside the Grafton pub in Barnham, on the Norfolk Suffolk border, three miles south of Thetford.

Police, ambulance crews and fire crews attended the two car smash, which left the road partially blocked and caused tailbacks.

Two fire crews from Bury St Edmunds and another from Thetford cut the man out of his vehicle within 30 minutes of arriving at the scene, but he was already dead.

The driver of the other car, also male, was taken to West Suffolk Hospital in Bury St Edmunds where his condition is currently described as "critical".

The crash involved a Vauxhall Cavalier and a Hyundai car, and police are appealing for witnesses.

The man becomes the 39th person to die on the county's roads this year, from 35 fatal collisions, according to Suffolk Police records.
