POLICE are today appealing for witnesses after a robber believed to be armed with a knife attempted to mug a young man in Felixstowe.

The incident happened in the Undercliff Road West area around 9.45pm last night - but the victim fought off the attacker.

Officers were called to the Spa Gardens after a 23-year-old reported that a teenager had jumped out of a red Ford Fiesta, approached him and demanded his bag and money.

The victim saw the offender appeared to have a knife but successfully defended himself, which appeared to stun the offender, who then ran away.

The door of the vehicle the offender had got out of then closed and the car sped off.

The offender is described as white, aged in his mid teens to early 20s, and was wearing a white hooded top, dark trousers and white trainers.

Anyone who was in the area at the time or who has information about the occupants of the car or the offender should call Felixstowe CID on 01473 613500 or Crimestoppers, anonymously if required, on 0800 555 111.
